The Temptation of Dragons

The Temptation of Dragons - Chrys Cymri Loved this book! I can't say enough about the author or her stories.

This book follows Penny White, a vicar with an affinity for Dr. Who and whiskey. Set in contemporary England, Penny's life changes when one night she comes across an accident and finds a mortally wounded dragon. He asks her to read him his last rights, and in the following days she finds that a whole new world of fantasy and mayhem has been opened up to her. On top of that, her long lost brother has returned, there's a snarky new assistant from this other world living with her, and she's being courted by an officer and dragon.

The story is a wild ride from beginning to end. There's fantastic creatures that can talk, like dragons, unicorns, and vampires, but there's other creatures you've never heard of, like snail sharks - dog-sized snails with enough teeth to eat small creatures and the occasional baby. Though the worlds are connected, most humans can't see the fantasy creatures without being touched by one, which is why Penny gets her own cat-bird gryphon who keeps her on her toes.

There is so much humor and intrigue, I could hardly put this book down. The characters are so fully realized, the world so complete that I could almost swear it was true. And that dragon... wow! I hope Penny takes us on MANY more adventures.

I think this will especially appeal to adults who loved the Harry Potter series, but crave something a little more adult (though still clean). Seriously one of the best fantasy novels I have read in a long time.

I received an ARC of this book, and am giving my honest opinion.
